ASX Company News: Monadelphous Secures Rio Tinto Water Supply Contract

Leading engineering group Monadelphous Group Limited (MND) announced it has secured water and transmission pipeline construction contracts in Western Australia (WA) with a combined value of approximately $180 million. The first is for Rio Tinto’s Coastal Waters Project at Bungaroo Valley in the Pilbara region of WA. The contract comprises the construction and installation of a potable water supply system that will deliver 10 gigalitres per year of potable water from the Bungaroo Valley to the West Pilbara Supply Scheme at Millstream, WA. The system includes a bore field, approximately 15 kilometres of collector main and 87 kilometres of transfer pipeline and a transfer pump station. Work is expected to commence in the first quarter of the 2012 calendar year and is scheduled to be completed in the first half of the 2013 calendar year.

The second contract, awarded by Chevron Australia, is for the preparation and construction of a CO2 injection pipeline and well sites on the Gorgon Project, Barrow Island, WA. This contract, secured through Monadelphous’s transmission pipelines business KT Pty Ltd, comprises installation and pre-commissioning of seven kilometres of underground pipeline, five well sites and associated facilities. Work will commence immediately and is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of the 2013 calendar year.

“These contracts support our objective of sustainable growth through the continued expansion of our infrastructure business and they build on our long term relationships with blue chip customers,”  Monadelphous Managing Director Rob Velletri said. The latest contracts take the total value of new work secured by Monadelphous in the 2012 financial year to more than $1.5 billion.

ASX Company News: Transfield Secures Adelaide Water Contract

A Transfield Services (TSE) joint venture with Degremont and Suez Environnement has secured a new 10 year alliance contract with a new customer, SA Water, worth approximately A$1.1 billion to operate and maintain water and wastewater services for the City of Adelaide and the surrounding metropolitan area.

After the initial term, the contract has a further extension option that will be reviewed and awarded in 12 month increments for up to six years. Transfield Services holds a 50 percent share in the joint venture. In an alliance with SA Water, the joint venture will maintain and operate South Australian water and wastewater treatment plants, water and wastewater network assets providing potable water to over 1.1 million residents in a regional area stretching from Gawler, 50 kilometres north of the city, to Yankalilla, 80 kilometres to the south. It will also be responsible for the delivery of minor capital works that relate directly to the operations of the network and treatment plants.

Refresh Group Acquires AridTec Pte

Refresh Group Ltd (RGP) is pleased to announce that it has executed a formal Share Sale and Purchase Agreement with AridTec Pte Ltd (AridTec) and its shareholders for the acquisition of AridTec by Refresh.  The final terms for the acquisition of AridTec have been varied since the announcement of the Memorandum of Understanding on 4 September 2009. The vendors of AridTec will now receive 71,800,000 shares in Refresh with the potential to receive up to a further 48,200,000 shares upon the achievement of certain profit milestones.

The acquisition of AridTec is subject to the approval of Refresh’s shareholders. Refresh proposes to hold a general meeting of its shareholders in June 2010.  AridTec and its wholly-owned subsidiary, AirQua International Pte Ltd, (AirQua) are Singapore incorporated entities. AirQua is a complete global alternative potable water solution provider specialising in atmospheric water harvesting solutions which draw water vapour from the air and producing drinking water in abundance through its patented technologies. AirQua can provide solutions to the world’s water needs. From the home to the office, to the factory floor, to farmers, doctors, hospitals, building and construction sites, oil fields, oil rigs and platforms, the military, international aid and rescue organisations, stationary units and or mobile units; the possibilities are almost endless.

Various models are available ranging from 24 litres per day to 500 litres per day. It provides good quality drinking water anywhere and is not dependent on water source. Where there is no electricity, it could be powered by a generator. AirQua has supplied such models mounted on trailers. This is also suitable for emergency relief situations.

Air-to-water generators use a minimal carbon footprint. It has no wasted water, energy or plastic as well as no transportation cost. It is certainly the ultimate green water source. UGL Awarded $120 million Melbourne Water Corporation Contract

UGL Limited (UGL) announced that it has been nominated by Melbourne Water Corporation as preferred construction partner, in Joint Venture with Baulderstone, for the planned upgrade of the Eastern Treatment Plant in the south east suburb of Carrum.

UGL and Baulderstone will form an Alliance with Black & Veatch, KBR and Melbourne Water to undertake this $380 million project. UGL’s share of the project is approximately $120 million. Melbourne Water is owned by the Victorian Government and provides wholesale water, sewage and recycled water services, and manages waterways and major drainage systems in the Melbourne metropolitan area and beyond. This upgrade will significantly improve the quality of treated water discharged into Bass Strait.

The project is subject to a final round of Government approval and is expected to commence by the middle of this year. A contract with Melbourne Water is expected to be finalised once this approval has been received.  The upgrade will be completed by the end of 2012 followed by a further two years of operations and maintenance services. UGL and its Alliance partners will provide design and construction services and will also participate in the initial operation and maintenance phase of the project in conjunction with Melbourne Water.

UGL’s Managing Director and CEO Richard Leupen said the company stands to benefit from increased spending in the infrastructure sector with a healthy pipeline of tendering opportunities currently being pursued.  He said UGL’s strategy of pursuing Alliance style projects gives UGL the capabilities and scale to pursue larger infrastructure projects.

The project with Melbourne Water also further strengthens UGL’s recurring revenue base.

The Directors of Refresh Group Ltd (RGP) are pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AridTec Pte Ltd and its shareholders. Refresh will acquire 100% of AridTec through the issue of new shares subject to certain terms and conditions. Island Sky Pulls Water From Thin Air

Island Sky Australia Limited (ISK) today announced it had signed a new $USD 27 million agreement for its unique “air to water” making machines to be distributed in Spain, Dominica, and 13 countries across Africa.

Michael Paragon, ISK’s Executive Director and Vice President of Sales & Marketing, said that under the three year agreement, Spanish Distributor Essential Water S.L., will purchase Skywater®14 products from ISK for the non-exclusive right to distribute them across Spain, Dominica, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, Guinea Equatorial, Cameroon, Angola, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Algeria. Essential Water S.L. is a recently formed sales and marketing organization based in Barcelona, Spain, created for the purpose of selling Island Sky’s air to water machines.

The company’s management is made up from executives and principals from the Precisport S.L. sports merchandising and licensing company. Under the agreement, Essential Water is obliged to purchase a minimum quantity of units from ISK, equating to USD $27 million in sales for Island Sky over a three year period. Essential Water may also be vested with a right of exclusivity for several of the territories listed above if it meets specified minimum sales targets. “We are seeing our global sales and marketing efforts really starting to pay off,” Mr Paragon said today. “The demand for our Skywater® water-making-machines is reaching an all time high.” About Island Sky ISK’s unique patented “air to water” making machines draw water vapor from the air and convert it to drinkable water. The Skywater 14, for home and office use, can, under optimal conditions, be expected to produce up to 50 litres of water per day at low energy costs. Macmahon Awarded 3 Government Water Contracts

Macmahon Holdings Limited (MAH) announced today that it had been awarded three major government water infrastructure projects on the east coast of Australia. 

These projects, designed to improve regional water supplies are

  Wyaralong Dam. This Alliance contract, for QLD Water Infrastructure, is part of the state’s strategy to ensure a sustainable water supply for South East Queensland. Macmahon will work as part of the Queensland Dam Consortium team to deliver the new dam and associated works. Macmahon have already completed significant water infrastructure projects in Queensland.

  The Nepean Weir upgrade. This project, for the Sydney Catchment Authority, will involve the construction of new fish passages and the creation of environmental infrastructure. Macmahon will upgrade 10 weirs in the Hawkesbury-Nepean system, with these modifications designed to improve the health of the river.

  The Blowering Dam upgrade. For the New South Wales State Water Corporation, it will see Macmahon undertake modification works, as part of the State Water Dam Safety Upgrade Program. Once complete, the upgraded dam will be able to handle extreme flood conditions, ensuring its future safety. 

Macmahon Chief Executive Officer, Nick Bowen, said the project wins demonstrate the Group’s ongoing success in the east coast construction market. “Our Construction Business is benefiting from the increased government spend on infrastructure projects, with these contract awards adding to our portfolio of government work. “The total estimated value of these three contracts for Macmahon is approximately $120 million, providing a solid platform for our Construction Business leading into the 2010 financial year,” Mr Bowen said.
