ASX Company News: DataDot Technology Enters Joint Venture With Surface Technology

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

DataDot Technology Limited (DDT) is pleased to announce that its 100% owned subsidiary, DataTraceDNA Pty. Limited, has signed a manufacturing agreement with Surface Technology, Inc (STI) of New Jersey, USA. The agreement allows both companies to use DatatraceDNA in a break-through composite plating process that enables DataTraceDNA to be chemically plated onto metal, plastic and glass, thus providing authentication of manufactured products such as valuable metal components, jewellery, watches and pens, non-textile brand and fashion goods, critical spare parts such as aircraft, machinery and automotive parts. The new system will appeal to industries and companies concerned to validate the authenticity and quality of their products, who wish to be certain they can unequivocally prove the origin and provenance of products. The new technology will also enable Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and brand owners to rapidly verify the authenticity of their products, thereby negating the costly issue of illegal warranty claims, counterfeiting and diversion.

Ben Bootle, Chief Executive Officer of DataTraceDNA, said “the new technology enables DataTraceDNA to be securely adhered to metal, plastic and glass parts providing a guarantee to brand owners of the authenticity and origin of their goods, critical parts users, allowing a higher level of safety, and consumers, that they are buying a genuine quality article”. Michael Feldstein, President of STI, added, “The synergy between the DataTrace DNA security material and STI’s method of application represents an unprecedented way for companies to authenticate and protect their premium products and brands”. The market for authentication and quality control solutions is growing rapidly in line with growth in global trade and the ever-increasing need to validate the origin, composition and quality of natural and man-made products.

DataTrace is a 100% owned subsidiary of DDT. The company offers a ground breaking approach to anti-counterfeit and security protection using its award winning microscopic identifiers that are invisibly embedded within or onto a manufactured product. Surface Technology, Inc. is a key leader in the metal finishing industry. STI has the unique distinction of making all of its technologies available as both services from its production facility or through chemical products available for customers to implement themselves. STI boasts a full line of electroless nickel products and services including composite electroless nickel technologies which embody a synergy between hard electroless nickel plating and a wide variety of particles that can be co- deposited such as diamond, carbides, ceramics, PTFE, and others.
