ASX Company News: Norfolk Group Secures GE Rail Signalling Contract

Leading integrated engineering company Norfolk Group Limited (NFK) has won a $56  million contract with GE Transportation (“GE”) for a new radio-based rail signalling system on Fortescue Metal Group’s (“FMG”) track duplication project between Port Hedland and the Christmas Creek iron ore mine in the Pilbara, Western Australia.

The signalling system will be the first of its kind in the Pilbara, using satellite positioning technology to track train movements on a 294km stretch of railway. It will enable greater efficiency and flexibility on the track, significantly increasing annual tonnage capacity.

Norfolk Managing Director Glenn Wallace said: “This contract is further evidence of Norfolk meeting the significant demand for innovative rail signalling technologies, especially from the resources sector.

The agreement reinforces the relationship between GE and Norfolk, which has been built through our successful work together on a number of large mining and rail contracts. Rail continues to be an area of strength for the Group, backed by our established reputation in delivering significant works on major resources projects.”

ASX Company News: Norfolk Group Secures Electrical Contract For Diamantina Power Station

Leading integrated engineering company Norfolk Group Limited (NFK) has been awarded a contract valued at more than $14 million by CTEC Pty Limited for electrical and instrumentation works at the Diamantina Power Station. The contract represents the first portion of four work packages associated with the 242 megawatt (MW) combined cycle Diamantina Power Station, which is currently under construction in Mount Isa, Queensland. Norfolk is in a good position to secure the subsequent work packages. Norfolk’s electrical and communications engineering specialist, O’Donnell Griffin, along with its mechanical engineering, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) business, Haden, will carry out the works. The contract involves electrical instrumentation, HVAC, fire protection and occupant warning systems works, including installation, commissioning, service and maintenance.

Dividends: Norfolk Group Ex Dividend On 10/7/2012

ASX Company News: Norfolk Group Secures $150 million Protection Contract For Brisbane Road Tunnel

Integrated engineering company, Norfolk Group Limited (NFK) has signed a contract  valued at approximately $150 million for the construction and pre-commissioning of mechanical, electrical and fire protection services for Brisbane City Council’s new Legacy Way road tunnel project. The 4.6km Legacy Way project is part of Council’s TransApex transport plan which aims to ease traffic congestion in and around the central business district. Council will deliver the project with $500M in funding support from the Federal government. The Legacy Way project will connect the Western Freeway at Toowong with the Inner City Bypass at Kelvin Grove through two separate parallel tunnels, each with two lanes of traffic. Construction has commenced and is expected to be completed in late 2014.

Council has appointed Transcity Joint Venture as the successful contractor to design, build and operate Legacy Way. Norfolk will be working with Transcity as an alliance partner in the Mechanical Electrical Construction Alliance (MECA) with a Project Alliance Agreement that contains a Target out Turn Cost with fixed fee and risk reward incentives.

The Transcity Joint Venture includes BMD Constructions, Ghella and Acciona Infrastructure Australia. The Alliance (MECA) will deliver the integrated industrial ventilation, power, lighting, and fire protection and suppression systems drawing on the significant local expertise and skilled trade’s base of the Norfolk Group as well as combining the assembled international expertise within Transcity Joint Venture. Norfolk is well positioned to capitalise on future scope enhancements including the opportunity to secure further works on the 10-year maintenance contract for the tunnel.

Norfolk’s electrical, fire and communications company, O’Donnell Griffin, and its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) specialist, Haden, will deliver the works, drawing on skills and capabilities from across Norfolk’s workforce of more than 3,300 people.

ASX Company News: Norfolk Group To Supply BHP Rail Signalling System

Integrated engineering company, Norfolk Group Limited (NFK), has signed a $82 million contract for the design and installation of new and modified rail signalling systems for BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Port Hedland Inner Harbour Project in the Pilbara, Western Australia.

Norfolk’s electrical and communications company, O’Donnell Griffin, will deliver the works and is responsible for the software and hardware design, installation and commissioning of the project. Up to 200 technical and management staff will work on the project, including designers and software engineers. O’Donnell Griffin will partner with global infrastructure leader, GE, to develop the rail signalling technology, drawing on international best-practise technical expertise in Australia, the US, Europe and India.

ASX Company News: Norfolk Group Secures $40 million Pilbara Power Project

Integrated engineering services company, Norfolk Group Limited (NFK) has been awarded a $40+ million contract for the Pilbara Underground Power Project (PUPP) for the Western Australian town of Karratha, following a competitive bid process. The works will be delivered by Norfolk’s electrical and communications company, O’Donnell Griffin, and will involve up to 100 highly specialized technicians, including High Voltage/Low Voltage (HV/LV) electricians, HV/LV joiners and HV testers. Directional underground drilling will also be employed as part of the project to avoid digging up roads, paths and drive ways.

The $130 million PUPP is a partnership between the State Government, through Royalties for Regions and Local Government, delivered by regional power company, Horizon Power. The aim of the PUPP is to provide cyclone affected North West towns with a safe and reliable power supply, by replacing ageing overhead electricity infrastructure with underground networks. The first town to be migrated to the underground power network is Karratha. In addition to the undergrounding of the overhead network assets, O’Donnell Griffin’s scope includes installation of street lights, SCADA systems and infrastructure for the National Broad Band Network Upgrade. O’Donnell Griffin has worked on a range of other projects in the Pilbara region, including BHP Billiton’s Rapid Growth Projects (RGP), Fortescue Metals Group and Rio Tinto.

Norfolk Group Wins $19.4 million Canberra Airport Contract

Norfolk Group Limited (NFK) subsidiary, O’Donnell Griffin, has secured a $19.4 million tender for the delivery of electrical services at the Multi-user Terminal of Canberra Airport in the Australian Capital territory (ACT). The contract is with Construction Control and will commence immediately. The project relates specifically to the installation of electrical and data communications services within the New Terminal.

O’Donnell Griffin’s ACT business has worked with Construction Control in the past on projects at Canberra Airport, and is currently in the final stages of delivering $1.2 million of electrical services at the Canberra Airport car park. O’Donnell Griffin has also worked with Construction Control on a number of landmark projects in the Canberra CBD, Defence facilties and the Australian National University.

Norfolk Group Secures $96 million Rail Contract

Norfolk Group Limited (NFK) subsidiary O’Donnell Griffin Rail, has secured a $96.5 million contract for rail signalling relocation and installation for BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Rapid Growth Project 5 (RGP5) in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The bulk of the contract, which is expected to run for 18 months beginning in June 2009, will see a total overhaul of the current signalling installation to improve transit times from mine to port.

David Howe, General Manager of O’Donnell Griffin Rail, said the company has been involved in the previous asset development and expansion works carried out by BHP Billiton Iron Ore over the past decade, including works associated with the Rapid Growth Projects 2, 3 and 4 (currently being completed). “We are pleased to be involved with RGP5, given its importance to the ongoing mining focus in WA and further enhances our reputation in the North West to deliver challenging and complex signalling installation projects.” said Mr Howe.
