WorleyParsons’ (WOR) wholly owned entity in Brazil, CNEC WorleyParsons Engenharia S.A., has been awarded a contract by Norte Energia S.A. to coordinate and deploy the environmental socio- economic plans prescribed in the environmental licences granted for the construction of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant, in the State of Pará, northern Brazil. WorleyParsons’ scope of work includes the implementation and management of 43 separate social and environmental projects / programs over a scheduled duration of 49 months. The contract value is R$ 175 million (approximately A$ 85 million).
Norte Energia S.A. was formed by a group of investors including private and state-owned companies in the electricity industry, contractors, pension funds, investment companies and autonomous generating companies to construct and operate the Belo Monte hydropower plant, on the Xingu River. When complete the plant will have installed capacity of 11.2 GW. Commenting, WorleyParsons’ CEO John Grill stated ”We are pleased to be able to provide our services to Norte Energia S.A. for this mega project which will utilize CNEC WorleyParsons’ comprehensive capability in the field of environmental planning and consultancy. It is noteworthy that this project is the largest environmental role that WorleyParsons has so far been awarded.”
