The US markets closed lower for the day, but higher for the quarter.  The Dow closed down 82  points or 1.0%  at 8447, the  S&P500 was down 8 points or 0.9% at 919 and the Nasdaq was down 9 points or 0.4% at 1835.
Gold and oil both fell sharply as the US dollar strengthened. Â Gold was down $13.30 at $927.40/oz and crude oil was down $1.60 at $69.89/bbl.
