    Modifying an Analyser Indicator

    Friday, August 18th, 2006

The source code to the non-propietary indicators was released yesterday in the Developers Corner Forum. We also had a client ask whether the MA Single Above Below indicator could be setup to both mow the lawn and alert when the Price was above the Moving Average but still within a set range of the Moving Average. Well, the mowing the lawn part is a little more advanced, but the range check isn’t too difficult to add.

Therefore, I’ve created a new demonstration that shows how to download the source code for the indicators, how to create a new indicator based on the existing MA Single Above Below (without overwriting the original) and then how to add the range check component.

The source code I created can be downloaded here if you’re interested. This also includes the compiled indicator, which would need to be copied to the \Analyser Scripts\Public directory to be of any use. (Please contact our support team if you need help with that.)

In testing the video, I noticed that the audio and video gets a little out of sync near the end of the recording. Please let me know if this makes the presentation too difficult to follow, as I will do what I can to improve that if needed, though it’s a little difficult to do.

    Watch Presentation. (30 Minutes)

    Regards,
    Craig.

    Tick Charts

    Thursday, August 10th, 2006

We’ve had the ability to provide ticked based history for a number of years, but have never been able to display the ticked information in the charts part of the program. However, a change that was made a few weeks ago to the chart, to fix a problem in a particular area, meant that it was then possible to include a ticked time span in the charts.

Therefore, the next release of the program will include the ability to show ticked based charts. It’s not yet implemented, but by the time of the next release, it should also be possible to have a ticked chart show with groupings based on the number of ticks. For example, display a chart where each bar, on an OHLC chart, represents 100 ticks. No matter whether those trades occurred over the course of one minute, five hours (i.e. Slow Night Sessions) or five days.

Here’s an example of the 3 Year Bond chart from the SFE.

    3 Year Bond Tick Chart.

What’s a tick? A tick is a trade. So a ticked chart of Microsoft would show one point (or one bar) for every trade on Microsoft. Because of this, ticked charts will not be available for delayed data.

    Writing A Simple Analyser Indicator

    Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

We had a request yesterday from a client for an indicator that could scan on the average volume for the past fifty days and a return a list of instruments where the average volume was greater than 1,000,000 per day.

We don’t have an indicator that’s preinstalled, with that capability, so I thought I’d use the occasion to demonstrate, using MDS Radio, how such an indicator might be created.

If you’re interested in how the Analyser Scripts (Or Entry Scripts) are created, then this video will give you an introduction to the process.

    Watch Video (20 Mins)

The created indicator can be downloaded from here. It should be saved in the Analyser Scripts/Public directory of your program.

    Regards,
    Craig.
